Had a great time
I was babysitting last night, and the kid brought out his no stress chess set. I have never played chess before in my life, and I had a great time! We both did, and he is only 5. I liked the different action cards and instructions for setting up the board.

Great game for kids and kids at heart
We bought this for my daughter who loves to watch tv, work on the computer and read books. We bought several games this Christmas to promote interactive play. She has not taken very good care of games in the past (lost pieces mostly). Once I played this with her a few times she was hooked.... and she puts it away without being told!!! Now she can't wait to teach her Mom to play. Great game we love it!!!

Great introduction to chess for my 5-year old
This game represents a brilliant concept. I got this game for my 5-year old daughter for Christmas. So far she has challenged me (her dad), her uncle, and her granfather already to complete, outstanding and thrilling games of chess. I said that my daughter is playing complete games of chess using this set!!!
She is learning the movement and capture capabilities of all the pieces. I am able to impart some simple strategies already such as Knight on the rim is dim, and move the center pawns in the opening, etc. We are almost ready to take the jump to LEVEL 2. I am excited for my daughter.
I am supplemeting my daughter's chess education with computer software like Dinosaur Chess and Fritz and Chesster.
CONS:
I don't trust the durability of this product in the long run. I wish the pieces had a wider base, since we have a younger daughter who likes to shake things up and the pieces tend to topple. I was a little disappointed with the board quality.

Great for kids who are learning the sportsmanship thing....
The benefit of this game is not really the fact the moves are printed on the cards. It takes kids very little time to remember the moves. The advantage of this game is that it brings luck and chance into the game, so it is not SOLELY about one's skill level.
My kids belonged to a homeschool chess club, and, to my dismay, my daughter (then 5 and 6) really did not have the emotional maturity to handle LOSING as a direct consequence of her chess abilities. The problem though, is that it is really by LOSING at chess that you start learning how to win. She was actually a pretty good chess player, but she refused to play anyone she suspected might beat her, and eventually quit altogether and would read a book while her brothers played.
This game got her to play chess again. There is still strategizing involved, particularly if you start playing the more advanced levels, but the fact that it is luck and chance that dictates which piece you must move somehow makes her feel better if she loses.
So I give this game an A++++ for the perfectionist child in particular.

Chess made easy
I wanted my son to learn to play chess, but he said it was for "old people". So, I didn't have much hope for this game when I bought it. My 6 year old can't get enough. If is a fun and easy way to learn the game and to play with all levels of chess expertise. After a few weeks of playing the game with the cards, my son wanted to try to play on his own without the cards. With this game you just flip the board and play. When he plays with his younger brother, we flip it back and use the cards.
Materials are sturdy, board is sturdy and well made so it won't crack like other board games. Really a fun game for us.

Fun for everyone!
My husband loves chess and wanted to teach our 6 year old son. I wasn't very interested in the game, but thought it would be a fun Daddy-son activity on the weekends. I loved the reviews of this product and they were so right. The No-Stress Chess game is fantastic. Even though I wasn't very interested in learning, I love playing with my son (and husband). No-Stress Chess is a faster game, with lots of chance involved (and some strategy, too), and is great fun. My son will ask to play it with me almost every day after school. Now, he's trying to teach his 3 yr old sister how to play. (BTW, that's not going very well!) We all enjoy this game and would highly recommend it to anyone. The game even has ways of making it more challenging and a closer approximation to real chess. Buy one - you won't regret it!

No Stress Chess Can Be Stressful, my chess club kids say, BUT THEY STILL LOVE IT
This is a type of chess that can be played drawing cards to see what piece you get to move next. Setting up killing your opponents pieces can be really tricky, because you don't know what piece you'll be able to move. The cards are really helpful in that they show you how each piece moves on the card, so it's great for beginners of chess.

Great for Beginners!
My son got this for his 7th birtday. He had been asking how to play chess and I didn't remember from my childhood. This has been a great toy to teach BOTH of us. He now plays without the help of the cards. I, however, still need one of each card out so I can remember how each piece can move. He's ready for a more challenging partner now! He plays this ALL the time (Even with stuffed animals, when I can't play!). He quickly moved on to the without the cards version.
Much fun for the money!

Children and adults can learn to play and love chess.
Great way to learn and play chess. I'm 47 years old and many people tried to teach me without success. My 8 year old son and I learned to play with No Stress Chess. So did Grandma. Great game!

Fast & easy, maybe too much!
My 6 year old had mentioned wanting to learn chess. I bought this for Christmas. He learned so fast we hardly used the cards! Now he gets frustrated when we play with the cards. It is a TOTALLY different game with the cards -- you can have someone in your "grasp" but can't take them because you don't get the right card. In my opinion, the cards are GREAT for learning which ways the pieces can move, but once you've mastered that, it's better to play without the cards.

Love this chess set!
We got No Stress Chess on a whim, thinking that our 6 year old was too young to play "real" chess. We LOVE it. Because the moves are guided by the luck of the draw, you can master single move strategies (e.g., do I move this bishop or that bishop, and how far?) without becoming overwhelmed with strategy or intimidated by more experienced players. I know how to play chess, and I think this version is really fun. I like that my son enjoys the game and has a decent chance of winning, which he has done!

Great tool and great fun for children and adults
We homeschool, and I just recommended this game to our entire homeschooling group.
The game has a regular chess game board on one side; the other side has the chess game board with pictures of the pieces on it so you can see how to set it up. Then it has a deck of cards that you pull from to make your move. Each card shows a picture of a chess piece and how it moves. This setup allows you to start playing a modified version of chess right away, without worrying about messing up. It does take a lot of the strategy out and rely more on luck, but it's still fun, even for grown-ups. After you've played a few times, you realize you remember the piece names and how each piece moves. Then you can play regular chess without the cards.
As a grown-up, I always thought it would be cool to play chess, but I was intimidated and didn't have a lot of time to spend on it. Now I'm playing and enjoying regular chess after very little time/effort and so are my 6 and 10 year old children.

A four year-old plays chess?
I love my 4 year-old daughter more than I can say but, in all honesty, she's no chess prodigy.
Daddy has all these different chess sets around the house, so that's where the interest began (an interest I was more than happy to encourage). We made a game of learning the names of the various pieces and how to set up the board. I thought our next step would involve learning how the pieces move and maybe even playing 'games' with some of the pieces' movements (bishops and rooks versus bishop and rooks, etc.), it was then that we discovered "No Stress Chess."
What the folks at Winning Moves Games have provided is something you'd imagine some clever teacher would have thought of centuries ago, namely; drawing from a shuffled deck of cards to determine which chess piece is to be moved.
Players draw from a face-down pile of 56 cards which each show a picture, the name, and movement of a particular chess piece. If they are able to move that piece, that is what they must do. The card is then placed face-up on their discard pile (each player has their own separate discard pile). In addition to 'chess piece movement' cards, there are also 'move same type of piece again' cards; this card allows the player to move the same type of piece last moved by themselves or their opponent. Believe it or not, that's just about all there is to it!
Needless to say (if you already know how to play chess), the game that results from this type of play is a whole different experience, for the most part based on the luck of the draw. There is no such thing as being in "check," and a "checkmate" is achieved by actually taking your opponent's king! Accordingly, there is "no stress" in placing an unprotected queen next to your opponent's king unless, of course, your opponent proceeds to draw a "king" card.
Once this basic form of the game is mastered (referred to as "Level One"), players may progress to the next level. In "Level Two" each player is dealt 3 cards at a time and may choose which of those cards they wish to play for their move. In "Level Three" each player is dealt 5 cards. Finally, the instructions suggest an "Advanced Game" where the rules of pawn promotion, castling, checking, and en passant are employed.
In addition to the playing cards a two-sided board is included. The squares on one side of the board show how to set up the game, with the name and picture of each piece on their appropriate square. The included plastic chess pieces are "heavy-duty" and virtually indestructible (with the noteworthy exception of the cross on top of the king). Lastly, in addition to the rules and variations of "No Stress Chess," a very adequate explanation of "Standard Chess Rules" and basic strategy are provided.
Okay, back to the title of my review...much to my amazement, I have a 4 year-old who moves her knight around the board like a seasoned grand-master. What more can I say?

Excellent toy !!
This chess set has two functional sides: one with pictures of where the pieces go and one without so you can progress. The instructional cards are excellent so that players learn which pieces can move which way. I found it so easy to play with my son since I had also forgotten many of the basics! Highly recommend it!!

CheckMate!
We bought No Stress Chess for our seven year old grandson for Christmas. His older sister was bemoaning the fact that she wanted someone to play chess with. Since they enjoy playing games together the 'No Stress Chess' game seemed the ideal way to satisfy two grandchildren with one gift! Our granddaughter will finally have a chess partner and our grandson will be able to understand and play chess without being frustrated.
Sounds good to me! Checkmate!

No Stress Chess is a perfect start
Apprehensive about introducing our smart yet perfectionist (hates making a mistake) [...] to chess, because I wanted him to learn to play without being turned off to the game forever because of its complexity, I bought no stress chess to ease him into an appreciation of chess.
He loves it, his [...] brother loves it, my husband loves it, and I love it! While making moves you would NEVER make in real chess, and abandoning strategy for luck of the draw, games can be won or lost BY ANYONE moving the pieces correctly in as little as 3 minutes! We have replaced tv watching with a nightly family chess tournament during the one-half hour before bedtime!
The pieces have a nice feel and the board has 2 sides - one marked with the correct location of piece set-up and the other a plain board for when we get to "yes stress" chess...

Great for kids and adults.
No Stress Chess is the best game I have found for teaching both kids and adults to chess. Even if you already know the game, No Stress introduces the element of chance. It is a fun twist on the game. It is also a quality set that can be used to play traditional chess matches. It is the one game that I have found that can be enjoyed by all skill levels.
