I love it
After getting another brand monitor with my new computer, and not being able to set the color properly, I sold the 6 week old monitor and bought the VG2230WM. This decision was based on my expeience with a 2 yr old Viewsonic monitor.
And when I plugged it in, the color was what it was supposed to be with minimal adjustment. I do a lot of photo editng, 20,000 a year, and the color must be right on my monitor.

Great deal for the money
An excellent monitor at an great price. Display is beautiful; had no problems adjusting Windows XP/SP2 to the correct resolution. It would be nice if the cables were a bit longer. The speakers are so/so, but that wasn't important to me.

A warranty program that is NOT worth a cent
Granted I bought a different model, but my experience can be applicable to all that purchase from ViewSonic. My ViewSonic monitor is only a little over a year old, and it already has some dead pixels. Since it's under a 3-year warranty, I sent it in for RMA repair. Not only did it take over a month to get my unit back, but also they had the nerve to ship it back without doing anything about it! All the dead pixels are still there at the exact same locations.
If warranty is part of your decision making factors, be aware that the ViewSonic warranty is worthless.

Amazon did the right thing
I purchased this monitor and was not happy with it. It came from CompUSA and I had no luck getting through to them on the phone to arrange a return. I contacted Amazon's customer service and they refunded my money almost instantly saying I was eligible for their satisfaction guarantee. Kudos to Amazon for great customer service.

Read your warranty and ask Viewsonic before purchasing
If you plan on purchasing a viewsonic monitor, be advised. Viewsonic does not warranty their product if you clean it with any non approved cleaning substances. Viewsonic, according to customer service representatives, do not currently have any approved cleaning products, and do not recommend touching your screen in any manner for cleaning or color calibration. Touching your screen in anyway constitutes abuse and voids your warranty as customer damage. Viewsonic also does not recommend using ANY color calibration devices on your monitor, as it constitutes customer abuse and is not covered under warranty. I write this because I had a view sonic monitor, calibrated it, and cleaned the "recommended way" the anti glare coating stated pealing off. Even though the products website said it was approved by Viewsonic. Viewsonic said tough it is not our problem that you damaged you monitor, you voided your warranty by cleaning it. I share this as a warning. the monitor was good while it lasted the first month.

Good for videos and regular use, not for games.
This lcd screen is GREAT if you don't plan on using it for video games. There is slight mouse, keyboard to monitor lag. For example if you click you might not shoot in-game for half a second which isn't a lot but it will seem like it and hurt your game play badly. Right now it's being used as a secondary monitor and is the one i use to watch movies.

Great monitor for the price!
The widscreen LCD is a replacement for my 19" Veiwsonic CRT and prompted by a purchase of a new PC. The analog and digital inputs on this monitor allowed me to use it with the old PC while waiting several weeks for my new computer to be delivered with the latest in digital video cards. The drivers shipped with the monitor were ancient history and the Viewsonic web site had the 64 bit Vista driver for download. The monitor also worked fine using the generic Windows (Vista x64) drivers.
I had looked at other inexpensive monitors at stores and found them lacking in features like digital and analog input sources or the ability to adjust height and tilt. The swivel base is good to share your screen content with onlookers. The built-in speakers are untested, since I have a separate speaker system.
The default screen setting was extraordinarily bright and I lowered the intensity before working with the monitor. The adjustment controls are not user friendly, but are not used often. I have no dead pixel issues. The color quality of my digital photo collection is very good. A knowledgeable friend remarked on the photo quality for the price point. (Disclaimer for photographers, I have NOT done a formal color celebration.) I have no need to keep the CRT for imaging work.
I also use an LCD at my office. It is no way near the standard of the Viewsonic in picture quality and features (plus a few dead pixels). The widescrren would be perfect for my spreadsheets, swivel base for visiting co-workers, and speakers for the awful PC sound.

View Sonic does it again
All I did was plug it in and up pops a sharp, clear picture. I don't play games so I can speak to its speed but movies are no problem. Love the wide screen for every thing I do.

Solid Product, Great Buy!
I had been looking at replacing the monitors on mine and my wife's computer for some time, and finally decided to order one of these.
I am extremely impressed with the display. It is extremely bright, bright enough that most will probably turn it down a bit. During videos and full screen games the image has very little blurring. The colors are well defined with the default settings and the controls are easy to adjust. It is packaged with both types of monitor cables to suit your needs.
The on board speakers are of moderate quality considering their size, and are probably adequate for basic tasks. If you like to listen to music or watch videos you probably will want something with a little more oomph. A cable to connect this feature is also included.
Over all, I was impressed enough with this monitor that I just purchased a second for my wife. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Great Monitor!
I recently bought this monitor for my husband as a birthday gift to replace an 19" CRT monitor. He loves it!
PRO:
- large screen. Sometimes it almost seems too big but it's great. But its also large enough that it alleviates the need to have dual monitors running.
- bright colors
- no bleeding
- no dead or stuck pixels
- good price for such a big monitor
- large enough area to scroll for applications that are larger/wider
- great for gaming
-
CON:
- speakers. would have been much nicer if they would have just left them off the monitor since no one uses on monitor speakers.
My husband is a software engineer and he LOVES this monitor. He said it's better than some of the equipment he works on at work! Highly recommended if your looking for a reasonably priced, great monitor.

View Sonic VG2230WM 22"
I work at the University of California Santa Cruz and we have to read and edit documents that deal with University Policy and Regulations.
It is great to have a large screen to search the web and quickly scan the document before printing. The colors are wonderful and excellent resolution for both pictures and text. I will probably buy another one this year.

Terrific Monitor But could be a little too big :-)
I am absolutly LOVE this monitior. Bright, sharp and easy to set-up.
the off beat native resolution can proove to be a bit tricky to set up
and drivers for vista is not easy to get it from the website, but once you set it up it is a gem. this is my first very own LCD and coming from 17 boobtube to this 22" buity is a WOW factor on its own SO I am enjoing evey minute of it..
Hoever such a big screen might be overkill for every day work so choose cerefully :-)

No Dead Pixels!
Which was my biggest concern with an LCD purchase. Most of the cheaper brands - well they are cheaper because people are content living with dots on their screen. This monitor received positive reviews elsewhere, and this site had the best price. It is BIG, and looks great.
Currently, most/all monitors of this size use the TN panels, and I'm guessing this one does as well based on the viewing angle and slight bleed through at the top and bottom of the screen when booting up. If you are a graphics designer, you want a smaller one (19 inch) with a higher quality panel. But then you already knew that.
We just use ours for standard home / work / game use and love the extra space it provides. If you use an IDE, there is plenty of room for all of the little windows, or side by side code windows. I especially like that it adjusts not just in height but in basically any direction. Also it has nice options on setting various resolutions in case you don't want to run at the max setting.
Make sure whether you want a widescreen or a standard. One isn't better than the other, just a matter of personal preference. We have ours now with the Windows XP taskbar on the right, without auto hide, which makes use of some of the extra width while also giving us more height since it isn't at the bottom.
Overall I have bought Viewsonics in the past and been very pleased and this is no exception.

Great Monitor (if your video card supports 1680x1050)
Overall, after using the monitor for about 2 months, I am very pleased with it. So don't take the Con's too seriously. Its just that as I age, I am getting very fussy!
Pro's:
- Very nice image WHEN resolution is set to the native 1680x1050. My original (dual monitor) card supported this mode only when using the VGA cable. But I wanted to use the DVI cable, to get the best quality. A new $50 card did the trick.
- The built in speakers are nice in a pinch, if all you care about is saving desk space.
- The FLAT BLACK finish is much less distracting than the high gloss "black mirror" finish on the other (more expensive) model.
- Great swivel base. Your cable layout is the only limiting factor - offers full 180 left and 180 right rotation.
Cons:
- You MUST turn down the brightness to reduce the light bleed around the edges, and to get better blacks.
- Very poor documentation. e.g. I had to call support to find out how to switch between the VGA and DVI inputs. (yes, you can connect 2 computers, at the same time, to this monitor, as long as one uses a VGA cable, and the other DVI)
It turns out, the bottom-most side button will toggle between them. (when you are NOT in a menu!)
- Very poor labeling (and location) of the 5 control buttons. The ergonomics are very poor. Unless you are good at braille, manipulating the side mounted buttons, without a clear view of where you are vertically, is a chore. At least the top (mute) button is a different shape. If buttons 3 and 4 where shaped as up/down arrows, then you might have a chance. I had the monitor several weeks before I even noticed the tiny impressions (black on black) that are supposed to give you an idea what the buttons are for.

Disappointed.
I wanted a monitor for digital photography that was a little better than the bottom end offerings. I decided on the Viewsonic. When I received it there was a permanent green pixel right in the middle of the display, and a 3/8" light banding strip at the top. Amazon was VERY helpful with the return process, even covering the return shipping. It seems that bad pixels in new monitors can be considered 'normal', but right in the center is unacceptable. I have seen this monitor in operation, and as long as there are no pixel problems, it looks great.

still waiting for an answer
The price and performance comming out of the box are just fine. What dissapointed me, was a lack of complete instructions. I replaced a CRT monitor (same brand) 20" size. with a 22" wide screen lcd.model VG2230WM. Being a Sr. Citizen I require larger font sizes. which I got easily from my older unit.
The quick set-up card makes it clear that the optimum results are by using 1680X1050 res. Sadly the fonts are too small for me to read. There are no instructions what so ever that offers an alternate to have larger fonts without sacrificing visual quality. I went to the Viewsonic web-site, and filled out a requsest for for help
and emailed it to them..no answer...did it again..no answer, tried a third time same result...end of review..nothing more to add.

Lots of viewing room!
I am really pleased with this purchase. The display is crystal clear and it is great to have the extra viewing size. You can view 2 pages side-by-side (web pages or document pages). The setup was very simple and the monitor is easy to move if needed.
