Customer Reviews for Boggle Junior Letters --- Hasbro

Fun for Preschoolers!

My 4 year old granddaughter loves Jr. Boggle! She gets very excited learning to spell words by using the cute pictures. And now she's teaching her younger brother the alphabet with the blocks with letters!
Perfect for 3s and 4s/pre-readers!!

I highly recommend this for pre-readers who recognize the letters of the alphabet. This game reinforces letter recognition and gives kids confidence and insight into reading. Best of all, it can be played with 1 player! My 4 year-old loves to play games and gets frustrated when I can't play with her, but this is one she plays by herself! Very stimulating and educational for 3s and 4s, but they will probably grow out of it once they can read. My daughter didn't seem to care that she couldn't read before playing this game, but in the past 2 days since I opened the game, she has really shown an interest in learning to read. Desire to read is very important for pre-readers, and this is the only thing I've found to encourage that besides the most important activity of all - reading to her.
BORING!

My husband & I love to play boggle so we were excited to find boggle jr to share with our kids. We couldn't even finish playing one time. This is not a game. You don't roll the dice or play in any way. This is a "learning" activity, but it isn't fun at all. I am very disappointed in this.
Good for 4 yr olds

This game is very good if your child is patient and can sit for a while.
Good for threes, not for smarties

I agree that this game could use some improvements. My daughter is advanced for her age, and has had no trouble spelling any of the words so far. It would be nice if Hasbro could come up with a real Boggle Jr. game that involved the word search element of the adult version. If your kid is bright, and has an above average vocabulary, I would skip this one. However, if you are looking for something to challenge an average to low average three to four year old, then by all means, go ahead and purchase this game. It definitely will help with picture-word identification, and with a basic understanding of the alphabet, your kid will be spelling in no time.
Not engaging or particularly fun

This game was not engaging. My son did not find it interesting. He has not asked to play with it again. You push the dice around to match letters on the cards or to spell the words yourself.

If you want to have a fun game with more of a challenge and an element of chance, try What's GNU. It is much better for beginning readers and it actually fun for older kids or adults.

Classic game

This game is a great classic game. But what happened to Big Boggle? It provided more letters and longer words. To the reviewer wanting lights and applause for her daughter... puh-lease... :p
From the Board Games Editor at BellaOnline.com

Boggle is a wonderful and easy-to-play word game that is suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. The box is small and easy to carry, making it a great game to take on road or plane trips. The game comes with a shakable dice tray and lid, alphabetic dice and a timer. All you need to provide is some sheets of paper and pencils.

Game play is very simple. Put the lid on the dice tray and shake it up. When the dice are all settled and the players are all ready, lift the lid and flip the timer. Every player now has three minutes to write down as many words as they can find that contain three or more letters. Words must be found from letters that are adjacent to or diagonal to each other on the board. The same letter cube cannot be used twice in one word. Plurals and verb conjugations count as words. Homographs or multi-definition words only count once.

After time is up, each player, one at a time, reads their list to the other players. Any word that is found on multiple lists is deleted from both of those lists. When everyone has figured out their non-matching words, they may now score their points. Points are scored by word length, as follows:

3, 4 letters: 1 point
5 letters: 2 points
6 letters: 3 points
7 letters: 5 points
8 or more letters: 11 points

Boggle strategy is similar to basic Scrabble strategy. In fact, Boggle can make for a nice warm-up game for Scrabble players, as finding words in a Boggle board is similar to finding words in a Scrabble rack. It's important to practice anagramming to become a successful Boggle player. It's worthwhile to spend your first few seconds of the game looking as the board and finding short but common prefixes and suffixes such as -s, -ed, -er, re-, de- and common letter combinations such as -sh-, -th-, -wh-, -ch-, etc.

It's important to remember to always write down both the plural and singular forms of a word, if they're available. It's a real bummer to discover during the list-reads that you've forgotten a 5-letter word just because you forgot to write the plural.

In any case, Boggle is a great game for a family game night or for travel.... you can take it anywhere (the folio edition is somewhat unneccessary, as the original box is pretty small and portable). No wonder it's such an enduring classic!

I love this Game!

This game is my all time favorite! My husband and I play this game with our children ages 16, 12 and 8. Sometimes we play as teams. It is truly fun and eductional.
Educational word challenge game

Great for competitive types looking to keep their brain exercised, keeping a dictionary handy is suggested, to avoid disputes
