ITIN efile validation bug
In Taxcut website customer surport page, they claim the valid range for an ITIN is ***-70_*** to ***-80-***. However, the IRS website publishes the range as ***-70-*** to ***-88-***. This out-of-date info in Taxcut software is preventing people (with ITIN range between ***-81-*** and ***-88-***) from e-filing the tax returns. I called Taxcut twice, and pointed out this problem, but the support people were either too ignorant of the ITIN number and software update routines, or just gave me some wierd unhelpful solutions, such as delete the number, close the software, wait for 5 minutes, then try again. I am having little hope that Taxcut will fix this problem this year, and I can only do a paper-filing now even though I paid for the version with e-file included. Also, thinking of all the trouble I have to go through to get a refund, I don't even want to bother.

Gets the job done
Used this year to do some very simple returns, as well as my own which is relatively complex. Was able to handle them all, including multiple depreciation schedules for real property, and fixtures installed in said real property. Like many others I find it bizarre that there is such a substantial charge for e-filing, when it actually saves the IRS considerable money to receive the returns via electronic transmission rather than as hard copy via snail mail.

TaxCut Software 'Rocks'
My 3rd year using TaxCut and it hasn't disappointed me yet. It's fast & very efficient...takes me an hour to complete and e-file (your refund is faster with Direct Deposit.) When a CPA charges an average of $500 to $600 to complete a federal/state return, TaxCut is a bargain at $70.00 which includes the fed/state e-file fees. Next year will be my 4th year using TaxCut.

Worked Well
I was initially hesitant to purchase this instead of Turbo Tax due to the problems listed in these reviews. I did end up buying Tax Cut when it was a Gold Box Special. I just finished e-filing both my federal and state returns. Everything worked out fine (with the exception that I owed taxes).
The only minor issue was that when I put in some information on an investment, it flagged a deduction entry as a potential problem. Rather than guide me though what the potential problem was, it just referred me to an IRS publication. I read the instructions, did not really understand the IRS directions, and so just continued putting in information in Tax Cut.
Otherwise, everything went fine.

I have used this program for many years. As my life has changed so has the program. This year 2007 went well I didn't have any problems with carryovers etc from last year. E file worked well got my state refund in a week. Maybe I was lucky to have the right questions

TurboTax user defects....
First time user of the product after a decade+ of using TurboTax. The TurboTax price increases finally got me to give this a try. TaxCut is different but functional... and it works. Got my refunds. Only complaint was at printouts. For some reason it thinks you've got legal sized paper and gives you no choice to print a copy otherwise. It prints out a page plus a remnant page for each actual document page. Also, the text at the bottom of the pages are cut-off. Best bet is to save as a .pdf and print outside the program.

Very disappointed and frustrated
I downloaded the Premium Federal + State + Efile. I've used Tax Cut for the last 3 years, and didn't have any problems until this year. The software is intuitive enough and I got through the federal part of the return fairly quickly. However, once that was done, it came time to download the appropriate state forms. When Tax Cut attempted to do this it gave me an error "Problem (28)" and said to "try again later". I did this over the course of a couple of days. It did not work. Since this was such trouble, I attempted to download the state portion manually. This did not work and said that it could not install essentially because TaxCut was not installed (it was installed, I had just done my federal return with it!)
I visited their support website and tried every solution listed for my particular problem (including the classic, "are you connected to the internet" solution) - I was, by the way. I tried uninstalling TaxCut and reinstalling. I installed on a different one of my computers. I disabled my firewall, and altered settings across the board on my PC, and still no luck.
I visited chat support, where I was instructed to do everything I had just done. They were of little help. Finally, I asked for my money back, and they would only give me a partial refund because the federal had loaded. I settled for that, because I had gotten a huge headache.
It seems to me that if I purchase a product that promises to help me with my Federal and my State return, I should be able to use it do that. If one component doesn't work, the product is defective.
Taxes are stressful enough with all the paper work and data entry. I will not add to my stress by purchasing this again. Use Turbo Tax instead.

Saves time, but has too many bugs...
I have used Tax Cut for several years. Every year, it seems to carry some of the same bugs forward. For example, I was doing a federal and two state returns. I wanted to see the impact of making IRA deposits on my federal taxes. Then I went back and removed the IRA deductions. When I started my state return, it automatically entered the IRA deduction although there was not one on my federal return. I tried several times to remove it and had to resort to manually overriding it on the state returns.
I also had a different occupation when living in one state as opposed to the other. Tax Cut did not let me change it or override it.
Finally, after e-filing the federal return and one state return (I had two), Tax Cut said I was done! But wait a minute, what about the second state? It would not let me do anything with the second state except print out paper forms. I do know that Turbo Tax allows you to e-file up to 3 state returns. Tax Cut did not even want to paper file the second state return. If I was not paying attention, I could have been in lots of trouble.
Next year, I will be using Turbo Tax.

Didn't get no people!
This is the first time I tried HnR Block software. I had trouble using the software and tried using their online help. I was told that the software had a problem and my best option was to use an online service to file my taxes. So I paid twice for 1 return! I am still waiting for them to refund one of those charges.
OH, BTW, this template might be useful when you wait for HnR `People' to contact you-
Promise (time) = Actual (time)
1 hr for response (help/ask a tax advisor) = 1+ days
48 hr for Level 2 critical response = 5 days (and counting)
If you get this product, I hope you have better luck then I.

Tax Cut is easy!!!
TaxCut is a very east program to use to complete your taxes. It walks you through every step and even double checks to make sure you didn't make any mistakes. It is supported by H&R Block and you have access to support from them as well. I have been using this program for years and would recommend it to anyone!!

Taxcut '07 - Really poor software & no support
Really poor design and the updates do not install properly. Every time I open the program it says there is an update required, downloads it, but fails to install. It then opens the software and says it has been updated. After I use the program save my work, close the program, and then reopen the program it says it needs to do an update and I go through the same process again, and again, and again. Don't try to talk to someone at tech support because they don't exist. The only thing this program is concerned about is selling you additional H&R Products. That part works fine. I hope my return is correct, but have concerns. DO NOT BUY or USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Glitch Requires Re-Purchase of State Program!
This software supposedly comes with one free state program, however, at least on my mac, it is requiring purchase of a state program without downloading the one that's supposed to come on the disk. You guessed it, after wasting an entire day re-installing, re-starting, re-everything to fix this, this crappy program gives you no way around the problem.
Oh, after wasting time all day, missed their service hours by two minutes. This is the biggest waste of money ever, especially after they jacked the price this year. Will go to another software next year no matter what the cost.

Better choice than Turbo Tax
I have used TaxCut several years. I decided to give Turbo Tax a try this year and went through their online option. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay until I actually filed. I think Taxcut is more accurate than Turbo Tax, and the tax I owe is much lower. I'll stick with TaxCut.

A Good Tax Program
This product works great and the support folks are good at what they do, but you do need to know a few things about taxes. This company and its competitors make it sound like their products do all the work - not really. If you are somewhat ignorant, please pick up the IRS and State booklets and read them before jumping into a piece of software that asks fill-in-the-blank questions. This is just some friendly advice. I have been doing taxes for years and have seen a few people grab this or a similar product and make regretable mistakes because they did not understand some of the questions being asked by the software program.

OH MY GOD MAC USERS DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM
I'm using MAC OS X 10.4 -- THE PROGRAM QUITS UNEXPECTEDLY, AND ONCE I QUIT IT WON'T OPEN. I HAVE TO REINSTALL EVERY TIME I QUIT. So I stopped quitting the program, but it UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT during the state form download --CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CLUELESS ABOUT MACS, HAD NO HELP TO GIVE OTHER THAN GIVING ME ANOTHER DOWNLOAD -- THE NEW DOWNLOAD DID THE SAME THING. THEY REFUSED TO REFUND MY MONEY. . Customer service knows nothing about IRS regs too. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. GOING BACK TO TURBO TAX.

Soon to be a former TaxCut user....
I have used Taxcut for 10+ years... I think that this will be the last. I was completely frustrated when the program sent me to an IRS publication to make a manual calculation to determine in I need to include my prior year state tax refund in my income because I paid AMT last year. All of the info that was needed was in my prior return(which was on the same computer) After I had to read the publication for 45 minutes to find what I needed, the calculation took 5 minutes. If I wanted to read and interpet the taxcode I would not have bought this program.
Unacceptable...

As Good as Going to the Professionals
I have been using Tax Cut for the past 4 or 5 years. The program is very easy to use and guides you step by step thru the complicated maze of the tax filing system.
You pop the disk into your computer and answer the questions as they come up on the screen. There are always tips and explanations provided and you can log on to the Help screen at any time for even more clarification.
As I have used this program in the past, the new disk recognizes my previous program and automatically populates my basic information.
As I am an active stock trader I could never have filled out a paper version of my return, and yet Tax Cut makes even that part so easy.
I honestly feel that I got the greatest amount of Tax Refund that was owed to me and I am very happy with the product.
PS> Be sure to choose the "electronic filing included" option. I got both my State and Federal refund in about a WEEK!! Amazing!!
Two Thumbs Up for Tax Cut.
